Understanding Double Row Angular Contact Ball Bearings
AMIGO’s Double Row Angular Contact Ball Bearings have been developed to meet the specialized requirements of high load and high precision applications. A significant advantage of AMIGO bearings is that they can be intermixed with the other leading bearing brands such as SKF and FAG, or NSK. This means that when using AMIGO bearings, many other relining systems will do so at lower costs, and the performance will not be compromised.
Features and benefits
- Less axial space
- It can be used for applications where two single-row angular contact ball bearings arranged back-to-back take up too much axial space.
- Accommodates radial as well as axial loads in either direction
- Accommodates tilting moments
- Stiff bearing arrangement
Temperature Limits
The permissible operating temperature for angular contact ball bearings can be limited by:
- Dimensional stability of the bearing rings and balls
- Cage
- Seals
- Lubricant
The bearings are heat stabilized up to at least 150 °C (300 °F).
Applications
- Industrial Machinery: Employed in machine tool spindles, pumps, and compressors to support high-speed rotations and combined loads with high accuracy.
- Medical Equipment: Used in high-speed medical devices like dental drills, MRI machines, and surgical robots where precise load control is essential.
- Renewable Energy: Utilized in wind turbine generators and solar trackers to manage combined loads and ensure efficient energy production.

Double Row Angular Contact Ball Bearings - Designs and Variants
The standard assortment of double-row angular contact ball bearings includes:
- bearings in the 32 A and 33 A series
- bearings in the 33 D series
- capped bearings
- open bearings (that are also available capped) that may have recesses in the ring side faces
Bearings in the 52 and 53 series are no longer available and have been replaced with 32 A and 33 A series bearings, which are dimensionally interchangeable. The size 3200 A is different and has a width of 14 mm instead of 14,3 mm.
Double Row Angular Contact Ball Bearing Loads
Minimum Load
Single row cylindrical roller bearings must operate under a minimum load to prevent slippage of the rolling elements. If the load is too low, the bearing may experience skidding, leading to increased wear and potential damage. The minimum load depends on the bearing's size, operating speed, and lubricant viscosity.
Equivalent Bearing Loads
The Equivalent Dynamic Bearing Load is essential in determining the bearing's performance under dynamic conditions.
Designation System for Double Row Angular Contact Ball Bearings
The designations of most AMIGO rolling bearings follow a system that may consist of a primary designation with or without one or more prefixes and suffixes (Basic bearing designation system).

Frequently Asked Question
Q: What are Double Row Angular Contact Ball Bearings?
A: Similar to single-row angular contact bearings, double-row angular contact ball bearings can also take up axial load in more than one direction at the same time, giving users better efficiency than their single-row counterparts.
Q: What are the benefits that Double Row Angular Contact Ball Bearings provide?
A: The main benefits include increased capacity, the facility to take axial loads in both directions and better rigidity, which helps extend the use of these bearings.
Q: Where could Double Row Angular Contact Ball Bearings be found in operation?
A: These types of bearings are used mostly in the automotive, aerospace, and industrial machinery industries, among other areas that require high load and precision.
Q: What is the notable difference between double-row angular Contact Ball Bearings and the single-row variants?
A: The critical difference is that whereas a single-row bearing can only take up an axial load in one direction, double-row bearings have two rows of balls and can take up higher loads as well as axial loading forces in both directions.
Q: Can Double Row Angular Contact Ball Bearings be employed in high-speed operations?
A: The Double Row Angular Contact Ball Bearing is designed to operate at very high speeds and still effectively handle the loads. The only reservation is that the maximum speeds allowed differ depending on the design.
Q: Are Double Row Angular Contact Ball Bearings interchangeable with Single Row Bearings?
A: Although both types are designed for similar purposes, the bearings are not interchangeable because they are different in their designs, loads, and application needs.
Q: What is the regular usage of double-row angular Contact Ball Bearings?
A: Normal usage consists of car gearboxes, pumps, compressors, machine tool spindles, and industrial robots, which provide both functional performance and a compact structure.
Q: According to expert advice, how should maintenance and servicing of Double Row Angular Contact Ball Bearings be undertaken?
A: Periodic re-lubrication and inspection are very important for proper operation, particularly with high-load or high-speed applications, to prevent premature bearing failure.
Q: What elements should be considered for accuracy and precision when using Double Row Angular Contact Ball Bearings?
A: Among these considerations are load requirements, speed, direction of axial load, confined space, and environmental factors like temperature and contamination.
Q: Can other brands be utilized with double-row angular Contact Ball Bearings?
A: Yes, where the size and international bearing specifications are followed, these bearings may be replaced with other known manufacturers, for example, SKF, FAG, NSK, etc.
